We’re going to look at our favorite pilots in X-Wing. Leo and Joe will be picking two pilots, one from each faction, (no Scum yet…) and explaining our choices. They may not be the best pilots, but they certainly are our favorites.
Empire
Joe:
My favorite Imperial pilot has got to be Dark Curse! I will always write his name with an exclamation point by the way because I like to think that’s how he’d say it. And also that’s all he says. Kind of like Hodor or Timmy. Dark Curse!
He usually does really well for me whenever I put him in my team and I just enjoy how frustrating his ability is for my opponent.
Things get particularly special when Dark Curse! is hounding a Hawk who was unfortunate enough to equip a blaster turret. Dark Curse! is immune to blaster turrets because they require a focus to attack. Usually when activating Dark Curse! I’ll sing “Dark Curse, Dark Curse” to the tune of Bad Horse from Dr. Horrible. Or turn Katy Perry’s Dark Horse into Dark Curse.
Dark Curse!
Leo:
My favorite Imperial pilot is Krassis Trelix, without a doubt. 75% of all Imperial lists I make include Krassis + Heavy Laser Cannon + Gunner. You’re always rolling four attack dice from your front firing arc and between Krassis’ ability and the Gunner, you’re almost guaranteed a hit every round.
While this combo is kind of expensive, you just throw him out on the field with a bunch of generic TIEs and you’ve got yourself a winning squad.
Rebels
Joe:
My pick for my favorite Rebel pilot, while Gemmer is growing on me, has to be Dutch Vander. I really enjoy flying Y-Wings, and Dutch is definitely the best Y-Wing pilot. While he’s not as exciting or frustrating as Dark Curse or other pilots, he is extremely useful.
I particularly like pairing him up with Hobbie. Those two make a great duo. Throw a fun little astromech on board and Dutch becomes a hard worker on any Rebel team.
Leo:
On the Rebel side of things, Wes Janson is my new favorite pilot. His token canceling ability has caused more cursing by my opponents than any other pilot. Wes + Wedge is my current core that I’ve been building Rebel squads around. I add Veteran Instincts onto Wes so he can shoot before Wedge and strip any tokens off the target and leave them defenseless against Wedge’s follow-up attack. Good times.
