How many times have you seen Star Wars?

For most of us it’s too many to count. I honestly don’t even remember the first time I saw Star Wars. It was certainly sometime in the early ’90s, but it was apparently before I was forming solid memories.

Most people remember when they first saw Star Wars, but I don’t. And I’m ok with that.

Because I don’t remember when I first saw it, it feels like Star Wars was always a part of me. Like I was born having seen it. Which is silly but that’s kind of how it feels.

We’ve all seen Star Wars so often I think many of us have fallen into somewhat of a trap when it comes to viewing the movies.

When most people watch the movies, they see them, but don’t really watch them. Sort of like hearing something as opposed to listening to it.

Think of it this way. You’re driving home: the same route you take ever day. You’ve done it so many times you’re essentially flying on auto-pilot.

It’s the same way watching a movie you’ve watched a thousand times. Most of the movie will wash over you and you’ll just experience it like you have the last thousand times, which for a lot of us takes us all the way back to when we were kids.

The last few times I’ve watched the movies I’ve been very conscious of watching them with new eyes every time. Switching off my targeting computer so to speak. And I honestly notice a difference.

I’ve noticed things and puzzled over things that I hadn’t thought of or seen before.

I only just noticed that Dengar is present at Jabba’s palace.

Something I took for granted before was that Chewie was going to eat that carcass on Endor. I mean we all know that, but have you thought of that?

Eating a random dead animal in the woods? Really Chewie? Get some standards. That’s nasty.

Finding new things in something that’s been with you for so long is exciting.

It’s like noticing something on your daily commute that you must’ve driven past a million times but are only just now noticing.

Next time you watch a Star Wars movie, turn off your targeting computer, who knows what you’ll discover.
