With Joe having just purchased Star Wars: The Card Game and a couple expansions, we thought this was as good a time as any to give a more introductory look at this great and often passed-over game from Fantasy Flight Games!
Of course, we’ll kick it off with what we’ve been playing, and Leo has a very surprising addition to this week’s discussion! Also, having listened to this introduction to the Star Wars LCG, please send us any follow-up questions you might have and we’ll try to get them answered for the next show! We do plan to do some beginner shows for the other games, too!

Just a comment on Leo’s murky remembrances of the Decipher SWCCG card rarity system.
For the first three sets (Premier, A New Hope, and Hoth), Decipher did use a multi-tiered rarity system. It was R1/R2, U1/U2, and C1/C2/C3. C3s were the most common but only a handfull of cards were printed at that rarity (Stormtrooper, Rebel Trooper coming to mind.) Leo is right that “main characters” were reserved for R1 rarity in most cases, however Chewbacca and R2-D2 from the A New Hope expansion were actually R2s.
After the Hoth set (starting with Dagobah) this system was eliminated and they went to standard R/U/C. In Death Star 2, two cards (Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight and Emperor Palpatine) were granted “Extra Rare” status. This was not repeated in any other sets.
The “Special Edition” sets did feature alternate card images for the main characters, and I believe the “AI” version was harder to find.
Well, that explains why I was able to collect Chewie and R2 from ANH as a kid while I had none of the mains from Premiere at all.
