2019 showed up the other day and it looks to be bringing with it a flurry of Star Wars games. Let’s look at what we all have to look forward to this year in the realm of Star Wars gaming.
Video Games
Vader Immortal: This is a VR game slated to release on the Occulus Quest, which is a $400 VR platform maybe like 12 people will buy. Which is a shame because it looks awesome.
Jedi Fallen Order: EA’s has had an exclusive deal to make Star Wars games since 2013, and in those 5 years they’ve given us 2 games that were less than well received. We’re going to be finally getting another game sometime this year. Could this be third times the charm from EA Star Wars games?
The game was announced at EA play in the lamest way possible. No trailer. No concept art. Nothing. Hopefully we get more concrete announcement information soon.
Battlefront II: This game got a fairly hefty injection of new life in the later months of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 will deliver some more Clone Wars flavored goodness. Count Dooku comes to the game at the end of January, and Anakin Skywalker arrives at the end of February as well as a new large scale game mode. New clone trooper skins will be coming in January and February too.
They haven’t said what (if anything) will be coming after the February content updates but there have been hints that Ahsoka and Padme might be coming to the game, and that they won’t be giving up on it after February. So we’ll see.
Mobile Games
Galaxy of Heroes is gunna keep making EA boatloads of money.
Force Arena is shutting down. RIP.
Rivals is finally going to be released this yea- oh wait that game got cancelled. RIP.
Rise to Power will be coming out this yea- oh looks like this game never made it out of Alpha. RIP.
Tabletop Games
X-Wing Miniatures: The Clone Wars wave of expansions arrive this year.
Beyond this exciting wave of content we can expect them to keep “re-releasing” ships that were in First Edition X-Wing.
Legion: In the pipeline due to come out any month now… are the following exciting expansions. Do I say exciting too much? These are all seriously exciting.
- Rebel Personnel Expansion
- Imperial Personnel Expansion
- Jyn Erso
- Rebel Pathfinders
- Orson Krennic
- Death Troopers
- Some playmats
- Some Premium Bases
That’s a lot of goodies coming out pretty soon (by FFG standards). Clone Wars era content should be coming out for Legion in 2019 as well as who knows what else.
Destiny: A new set of boosters called Convergence will be coming out. Two additional as yet unannounced sets will be out this year as well.
Imperial Assault: Currently no news on the horizon… Is Imperial Assault dead? 🙁
Armada: THE FREAKING SUPER STAR DESTROYER.
Roleplaying Games: The Rise of the Separatists sourcebook comes out this year!
